Description:
Medium sized black and white, with broad white wing-bar and long reddish bill. Adult has head, neck and upper breast all black; scapulars, upperwing-coverts and tail also black; broad white wingbar from inner secondaries to middle primaries; middle and lower back, rump, uppertail-coverts, lower breast and belly white.
Distribution:
Vagrant during passage migration in Gilgit-Baltistan, rare inland and with no latest records. Mostly found near sparsely vegetated mud flats or sandy banks of wetlands, lakes, streams and also grasslands. In the areas occurs up to 3000m.
Behavior:
All oystercatchers attack different prey types using variety of techniques with prey species, its relative abundance in diet and foraging method all varying greatly with time, locality and individual. Feeds on mussels and other bivalves, limpets, whelks, marine polychaetes, crabs, earthworms and insect larvae, rarely fish.
